This course focuses on the comprehensive evaluation and management of the soccer player. Clinical reasoning, differential diagnosis, and evidence-based practice with practical application to soccer players will be presented throughout the coursework. The course will help learners to fully understand the game of soccer, the physical therapist’s role, understanding of soccer injuries and how to evaluate and implement various tools and techniques to treat this clientele with the aim of return to a high-level sporting environment. This course is a combination of education with some hands-on lab exposure with supervision implementing the concept of preinjury rehabilitation and return to play protocols as well as ensuring appropriate dosage of exercise for optimal outcomes and results.

Target Audience:  PT, PTA

Instructional Level: Beginners

Instructional Methods: Hands-on lab, lecture with Q&A, group discussion, patient cases, evidence review.

Course Completion Requirements: must attend the entire 1-day course and complete the post-course test

Course Rationale:

Course Objectives

Interpret the physical demands of soccer.
Understand the most common soccer injuries and identify risk factors.
Understand pre-injury rehab and return to play protocols identifying selection of appropriate tests and exercises for specific conditions.
Define the physical therapist’s role from acute management to end stage rehabilitation. Understand rehab considerations and identify needs analysis for soccer.
Execute soccer specific drills in the clinic.
