This one-hour self-study continuing education course will focus on Femoracetabular Impingement (FAI) and how it can relate to hockey players. The goal of this presentation is to teach clinicians about the anatomy, pathophysiology, surgical interventions, and rehabilitation concepts that can be applied to FAI in an athletic population.

Target Audience: PTs, PTAs, ATCs

Instructional Level: Beginners, Intermediate

Instructional Methods: Online video with PowerPoint

Course Completion Requirements: must complete the entire 1-hour course and complete the post-course test

Course Objectives

  • Describe the etiology on labral tears and FAI in hockey players​
  • Describe the butterfly technique used by goalkeepers and how this may contribute to labral tears and FAI
  • Describe the difference in CAM vs Pincer impingement
  • Summarize surgical indications for labral debridement, repair and micro fracture and techniques used
  • Develop a return to play/ice program for using a standard protocol following arthroscopic surgery for FAI and labral tears for hockey players
