This continuing education course will
focus on advanced topics related to
balance, vestibular disorders, and
concussion management. Clinicians will
discuss relevant advances in concussion
research and management. This course
will emphasize case-based learning and
practical application.

This is the final course in a 3-course series
to prepare clinicians for the Vestibular/
Concussion Certification Examination. Vestibular 1 and Concussion 2 are required prior to registration for Concussion 3.

Target Audience: PTs, PTAs, OTs, COTAs, PTAs

Instructional Level: Beginners

Instructional Methods: Hands-on lab, lecture with Q&A, group discussion, patient cases, evidence review

Course Completion Requirements: must attend the entire 2-day course and complete the post-course test

Course Objectives

  • Perform timely recognition and appropriate response and evaluation for head
    injury and concussion
  • Identify concussion signs and symptoms, evaluation, assessment, and promote
    post-injury wellness and recovery.
  • Demonstrate Education for prevention, the effects of injury on school, work and
    play
  • Demonstrate intervention techniques for cognitive, vestibular, and oculomotor

Day 1

8- 8:30: anatomy and physiology of concussions
8:30- 9:30am: Relevant patient history, signs and
symptoms of a concussion
9:30- 10:00 am: on field assessment, red flags,
Glasgow Coma Scale
10:00- 10:30am : Lab on Subjective assessment
of a concussion
10:30 -11:30 overview of flow from injury to
assessment to RTP
11:30-12:00: Lab on use of SCAT 5 to assess
concussion
12:00- 12:30pm: Evaluation and examination of
cognition
12:30- 1pm Lab
2:00- 3: 00 Vestibular assessment of a concussion
3:00- 3:30 Lab to practice vestibular assessments
of concussions
3: 30- 4: 30 Treatment of a patient post
concussion
4:30- 5:00 Questions

Day 2

8:00-8: 30 Review of day 1; Evaluation
