We recognize that the outpatient setting poses a challenge to new and seasoned clinicians alike. Our Foundations course is designed to provide a clinician with applicable framework beginning with the first encounter and throughout the patient’s clinical experience. Participants will be confident in their decision-making skills when choosing appropriate dosing and incorporation of exercises based on stages of healing. They will have a basic understanding of various types of manual therapy skills, how to assess, and how to safely implement in the outpatient setting. A post-course survey is required upon completion of the course. This is a 1-day virtual course eligible for 8 credentialed hours.

Target Audience: PTs, PTAs, ATCs, OTs, COTAs

Instructional Level: Beginners

Instructional Methods: Lecture with Q&A, group discussion, patient cases, evidence review

Course Completion Requirements: must attend the entire 1-day course and complete the post-course test

Credentialed for: 8 hours

Course Objectives:

Upon successful completion of this course learners will be able to: 

  • Efficiently and effectively analyze patients’ subjective information to highlight important areas and guide decision making throughout the clinical experience.​
  • Efficiently and effectively analyze a patient’s objective measures in a functional manner to guide decision making throughout a plan of care.​
  • Apply a framework for therapeutic exercise prescription based on the stages of healing.​
  • Have a basic understanding of how to balance utilization of manual therapy for assessment and treatment techniques.

  • 10:30AM – 11:00AM: Functional Assessment LAB
  • 11:00AM – 11:20AM: Lecture on Research for MSK Care
  • 11:20AM – 12:00PM: Joint Review
  • 12:00PM – 1:00PM: LUNCH
  • 1:00PM – 1:25PM: Manual Therapy Lecture
  • 1:25PM – 1:50PM: Joint Mobilization Lecture
  • 1:50PM – 2:20PM: Joint Mobilization Lab
  • 2:20PM – 2:40PM: Soft Tissue Mobilization Lecture
  • 2:40PM – 3:15PM: Soft Tissue Mobilization Lab
  • 3:15PM – 3:25PM: BREAK
  • 3:25PM – 3:55PM: Stages of Healing Lecture
  • 3:55PM – 4:30PM: Stages of Healing Activity
